Store all knits folded. If they are hung, knits will stretch up to 3 inches, and bulge on the sides of hangers. Folding them in the bottom of a garment bag in your closet is a space-sensitive way to store sweaters and other knit garments. We’ve found that knits rarely need to be ironed—after 15 minutes of wear wrinkles should naturally smooth out. They can also be ironed, steamed, or hung in the bathroom during a shower for de-wrinkling.
During warmer months, store alpaca/baby alpaca blends away from moths. Cedar chests are great, mothballs are smelly but effective, and lavender sachets are a deterrent to moths (though not as effective as cedar or mothballs). If by some chance moths do get into your knits, that’s okay! Some of our favorite sweaters have holes and we wear them proudly.
